China's embassy in Pakistan has called for an investigation into a suicide bombing that killed Chinese engineers working on a dam project, as per a report by The Indian Express.
The attack, which occurred on Tuesday (26 March), marked the third major assault on Chinese interests in Pakistan within a week.
A suicide bomber drove a vehicle into a convoy of Chinese engineers en route to a dam construction site in Dasu, located in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The attack resulted in the deaths of six individuals, including five Chinese nationals and their Pakistani driver, according to Mohammad Ali Gandapur, the regional police chief.
The Chinese embassy in Pakistan has initiated emergency measures and urged Pakistani authorities to thoroughly investigate the incident, punish those responsible, and enhance security for Chinese citizens.
Dasu has previously been targeted, with a 2021 bus blast claiming the lives of 13 people, including nine Chinese nationals.
The area is a significant location for dam construction projects, part of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), where China has invested over $65 billion in infrastructure development.
While no group has claimed responsibility for the recent attack, previous assaults on Chinese interests in Pakistan have been linked to ethnic militants and Islamist groups.
The attack comes ahead of an anticipated visit by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Beijing, marking his first visit since assuming office. The Pakistani government has deployed police to the site of the attack to provide relief and ensure the safety of the remaining convoy members.
