A burqa clad woman set a Muslim cleric on fire near Chennai’s big mosque in Triplicane, Times of India has reported. This incident happened on Monday (27 August) night and the victim has been identified as 60 year old Syed Fazruddin.
As per the report, the accused entered the imam’s office along with about five other women devotees at about 8 pm. These she threw chemicals at him and set him on fire. This fire also partially burned down the office.
An officer investigating the case said that the accused was chased by an Imam’s friend who did catch her but she pushed him away to escape. The officer claimed that it was a well planned crime.
The imam was rushed to a hospital but he died two hours later. The doctors did not find any trace of inflammable fuels on the imam, following which they sent samples for forensic test.
The police eventually arrived at the crime scene and filed a case of murder. The report claimed that the police are yet to either arrest the accused or determine the motive of the crime.
