Delhiites will now have to wait till the year-end for Lajpat Nagar-Mayur Vihar- Pocket I and Shiv Vihar-Trilokpuri sections of the Delhi Metro’s Pink Line to be operationalised.
Lajpat Nagar-Mayur Vihar- Pocket I section of the metro will now open for public in December against the earlier expected November while the Shiv Vihar-Trilokpuri section will open for public in November, Times of India has reported.
Managing Director of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Mangu Singh told TOI that the reason for the delay is non-completion of trials. Once the trials are completed the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) will inspect the sections and only after this go ahead the sections could be opened for public.
“Physically, we are ready. It’s a question of completing the trials. Lajpat Nagar and Mayur Vihar-I stations are currently operational. Interchange stations and the trials from Lajpat Nagar till Mayur Vihar Pocket-I can be done only after passenger services are closed from Lajpat Nagar to Majlis Park (Pink Line) and Mayur Vihar to Indraprastha (Blue Line),” he said.
The 9.7 km long Lajpat Nagar-Mayur Vihar- Pocket I stretch will cover five metro stations and will benefit areas like Moti Bagh, Sarojini Nagar, South Extension, Lajpat Nagar, Ashram, Vinoba Puri while 17.8 km long Shiv Vihar-Trilokpuri section will be beneficial for areas like Gokulpuri, Maujpur and Johri Enclave.
