A police complaint has been registered by a 21-year-old woman alleging that a student activist raped her inside the office of the Communist Party of India (Marxist)‘s area committee at Cherapulassery in Kerala’s Palakkad district, reports The New Indian Express.
Police have started an investigation into the matter. The complaint was filed after the woman in question was traced by the police in a case regarding an abandoned newborn girl; she then came forward with her account of being raped ten months ago at the CPI (M) office.
She narrated that the incident had occurred after she had visited the party office for some relating to a college magazine.
A local leader of the CPI (M) has revealed that the woman is herself a member of the leftist Students Federation of India (SFI), with her family being closely linked to the party.
The woman and the newborn child are currently in the hospital.
Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala lambasted the CPI (M) over the matter, saying that it was unfortunate that the ruling party’s offices had turned into ‘rape centres’.
The CPI (M) MP from Palakkad, M B Rajesh, demanded that the truth of the situation should be revealed as soon as possible.
