Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (25 December) announed vaccination for children aged between 15 to 18 years will begin from 3 January across the country.
Further, the healthcare workers and frontline workers will be vaccinated with a "precaution" dose or a booster dose from 10 January.
He also announced that people who are aged above 60 years and have comorbidities will also be eligible for the "precaution" dose subject to recommendations from their doctors.
PM Modi's announcement on starting Covid vaccination for children aged 15 to 18 comes shortly after reports emerged that the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has granted emergency use authorisation to Bharat Biotech's Covaxin for children above 12 years with certain conditions.
According to the reports, the Subject Expert Committee on COVID-19 of the CDSCO on October 12 after deliberating Bharat Biotech's EUA application had recommended granting emergency use approval to Covaxin for use in the 12-18 years age group with certain conditions.
