In a video that has gone viral on social media ahead of a bandh planned on 11 October in the Delta districts, a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) functionary can be heard saying that they would have to act as if they are opposing the Congress government in Karnataka in order to win the 2024 elections.
According to a report by The Hindu, the person speaking was M Gnanavelan, the deputy district secretary of the DMK and he said, “We should create an illusion of opposing the Congress and downplay [AIADMK leader] Edappadi [K. Palaniswami] ultimately to eliminate the BJP, and that should be our policy. We can win the upcoming Lok Sabha election only if we do this to show our unity.”
The meeting was attended by DMK functionaries and the Congress MLA from Mayiladuthurai, S Raja Kumar.
Sharing the video, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president K Annamalai, said, "As far as the DMK-Congress alliance is concerned, it has a history of betraying the people of Tamil Nadu on livelihood issues.
“On the Cauvery issue, the DMK, which has been staging a drama day in and day out, is now going to pretend to hold a protest to deceive people and create an illusion that they are opposing the Karnataka Congress government.
"Their real purpose is not a real solution for the people; They have admitted with their own mouth that they are only playing politics by deceiving people."
